Every Member an Alien
How should a Christian relate to the world? In what ways should we look just like the surrounding culture, and in what ways should we be different?
There is a lot of moral filth and decay in the world, ok, sooo...Should we run for cover and
hide? Form alternate communities and reject anything that might pollute us?
But that could be seen as judgmental. Besides, there is much that is beautiful in the world. So, to reach the culture maybe we have to assimilate. But what if we start to look so much like the culture to reach them, that you cannot distinguish?
So which is it? Do we Isolate? Or Assimilate? And to what degree? And how do we know? Thankfully we are not the first Christians to wrestle with this. 1 Peter offers us a third way. Not “capitulation.”
And Not “all of us go off and live in a cult somewhere locked away in a compound.” There is a third way.
