Gleaning from Gleanings
This is in a passage over and over again where God is telling his people you will be set apart,
you will be different from the surrounding nations that do not know me or know my love.
From the foods you eat, to the clothes you wear, you will be set apart, special, WHOLE. And
the Bible word for this is HOLY. God is saying, I am holy, so you will be my holy people.
HOLY GOD. HOLY PEOPLE.
And part of what it means to be HOLY is how we are going to treat the poor and the sojourner.
There are many pagan nations surrounding Israel that say you take care of your own, you look
out for #1, and WHO CARES about some foreign immigrant, or for the poor. It’s dog eat dog in
Canaan, or later in Babylon, or Assyria, or wherever.
Not so with you, Israel. You are gonna be different. HOLY. BECAUSE I AM HOLY.
HOLY GOD >> HOLY PEOPLE
That’s the context. Now, let’s examine the verse.
